The beginning has a slow tempo increase which was hard to cover with the limit's imposed by FamiTracker (or rather the NES' SPU), but that's what it's all about covering songs and whatnot! In the end I think it came out really well. Both in how it sounds and in covering it. Some songs are unique to one version of the game, like Crystal Gorem on GB or Stage 3 on NES. So I decided to redo the whole soundtrack, VRC6 style!įor most songs I will use the SNES SPCs as a template as that soundtrack is the closest to the Arcade one. There are also versions for PlayStation, Saturn, PSP and the obscure X68000, but those versions all sound pretty much exactly like the Arcade version.įor a general comparison (Stage 1 Theme): The GameBoy version didn't put out a particularly good job either.ĮDIT: I forgot that there was also the PC-Engine version, which at least sounded pretty okay. I own four versions of the 'second' Parodius game (the first one is that on MSX, the second one is that which came out in Arcades, on SNES, etc.) and always thought that the NES version's soundtrack simply didn't sound as good as it could.

The Parodius series are shmups that are very close to my heart because of its unique humour and even more unique soundtrack.
